Blackskirt Tetra

I was wondering what causes a blackskirt tetra to change color. In the mornings, his skirt is a pure silver color, but then I look at it a little later, and its skirt is jet black. What does it all mean?

it was sleeping now its awake. when they sleep they go pale. nothing to worry about

Aside from eating and spawning, fish spend most of their time focusing on NOT getting eaten. To do that, many fish (not just blackskirts) will adjust their color to be the best camouflage in whatever the ambient light is for any part of the day.
