I've wanted a blacktip and a white tip reef shark for awhile. Just wanted to know if the can be kept in the same tank? And what size tank would I need? I've heard a 30k gallon plus for one black tip.

Yeah it's possible to keep a Blacktip Reef & a Whitetip Reef together.

As juveniles you might go with something like 7,600 gallon tank/pond(basically a footprint of about 254 sq.ft or more). This should work until they reach maturity.

in the wild - Blacktip reefs and Whitetip Reefs are often found in the same areas.

As adults - they need a tank/pond that is over 25,000 gallons.

I find the black tip reefs and white tip reefs make great tank mates. Its very nice since the white tips hang more towards the bottom and black tips swim mostly in the mid part of the tank. Black tips are much more active than the white tips and much faster swimmers. I would say that you could keep a white tip reef in a 15 foot round pool till they are about 4 feet and then you would want to have something like a 24' pool. For the black tip reef The same would work but I would rather see a 4 foot black tip in at least an 18-20 foot pool. I would say to hold these two sharks for life a 30' foot pool would be good.

Also if you plan to just get on or the other white tips seem to grow much faster than black tips so you may have to up grade sooner.

I got a white tip that was 23" in the end of may and is now about 29". My black tip was 27" than and is now only about 28.5". Just thought you would find that interesting.

Awesome. Thank you, I've looked all over the net, and can't find anything about the two sharing a tank together. I always thought it would be cool to have the two species together. You were very helpful.

No problem. I found that most swimming sharks (that I have kept) do quite well together as long as the are around the same size and share the same water requirements.

x2!

I've had black tips (pacific black tip reefs) and white tip reefs together. Worked just fine due to matching sizes.

Keeping everyone fed and organized at feeding time is one of the biggest hurdles.
