Hello, I need some help with my system I am working on, and figured I would ask you guys.
Anyways, I have a rather large system at my work. It is twelve, 20 gallon tanks, and six, 40 gallon tanks, and a large sump filter that runs all of those tanks. This system houses Tetras, and baby Piranhas. Since all these fish come from blackwater conditions, I would like to try and replicate that as best as I can. I have already started by replacing Rock with driftwood, and have added plenty of live plants.
I read that peat is one of the best ways to achieve blackwater conditions, and would like to try that approach. I know that the peat is basically put into the filter as an insert. I am guessing for this large sump, that I can not use an ordinary filter insert, so I have decided to use those fluval filter bags, and make one that will hold enough peat for this whole system.
My questions I have are pretty basic. First off, How much peat will I need to accuratly mimic the blackwater in this system? And second, how often will I need to replace the insert?
thanks in advance for any help!
