I've added a garbage bag full of oak leaves to my tank. The result is that the water is very dark now as the leaves have released their tanins into the water. My pH has also dropped from 8.4 to 6.8.
Several of the fish have really colored up nicely with the addition of the leaves. In particular, the kelberi have turned a magnificent gold... and I mean GOLD!!
You can see some of the leaves on the bottom but the water is so dark you can hardly see the back of the tank. Here's a female "lenticulata" pike. She's not as spectacular but has definitely changed colorwise over the past few days.
