I am debating if i want to go blackwater or not on my 180g...anybody got pics of their large blackwater tanks??

Nope, I don't like the dirty water look for my tanks. I would like to see what others are doing though.

makes it hard to see the fish
i cant find a pic of my 40 gallon back when it was blackwater :irked:

I used it once. Within an hour I had a mating pair. It definately had an effect on my discus but, as others said, did not enjoy the off coloring.

It isn't bad.lol It's all personal taste though. Leaf litter, driftwoods and tall plants..now that's something else but no, I started using leaf litter only when I kept loaches in my river setups rather than the community tank. My discus tank was just planted.

I don't have any good pics of my setup, and its only a wide 55g, but I love the look. It really makes the colors pop on some of the fish, and the apisto's, cardinals and greenfire tetra's defiantly seemed happier with it then without it. I know its not for everyone, but with plants and driftwood, i find it very striking.

I use peat in my filters, and have used leaf litter in the past and am thinking about going back to it. most of my wood is pretty leached out so doesn't contribute a lot.

See avatar.

I make 'black water' conditions by having alot of driftwood and NO activated carbon.
I love the tea-stained color because I know it's what makes my Amazon and Southeast Asian species thrive in a natural fashion.
If you've ever seen one of the gigantic aquarium tanks set up by Takashi Amano, you can barely see through to the end, but the fish are absolutely ecstatic about life!
