Do you change the water they are kept in daily? They foul the water real fast. Whenever I kept them I would change all the water they were kept in daily and had no problems with any of them dying.
I keep mine in the fridge. I put about 1 to 1.5lb in a rubbermaind container that is about 14in long x 8in wide. Somwhere close to those dimensions. I drain them into a brine shrimp net and rinse them in cold water and put them back. Only keep a lil bit of water in with them. Too much water will drown them. Clean them every other day or so.
you want to keep them in about an half inch to about an inch of water depending on the container they are kept in. Change water everyday helps as well.
