is it true you can wash your fish stuff with bleach and water solution? i have plants in my fish buckets out side. now they have alge growing on the sides. I wish to clean them.

I've read some where that it will work as long as i let the beach evaporate after.

You can use bleach, just besure to rinse very well and soak in water, and add about 6 times the recommended dose of dechlorinator.

they artificial ones right?

i bleach my plastics once a month. i do a 1:10 bleach with water and rinse really good, then let dry before putting them back.

ewurm knows best :)

Make sure the bleach says "non-detergeant" otherwise you get a persistant soap residue.

Doesn't really matter. Plants can handle a 1:19 solution for several minutes.

I use 1:19 for persistent black brush algae. Depending on the plant, they can handle the solution for different amounts of time. For plastic plants a 1:10 will do great. A 1:19 is fairly weak, and doesn't really require a dechlor. I just shake them a little bit, and back in they go.

no the plants are real. sorry i reread my post. i should have said the "buckets" have alge growing on the side. brownish color alge.

i'm trying to wash the bucket.

I have no idea what dechlorinator is. and if i did when and to where would i add it? unless i should assume we are talking about fake plants before they are put in to the tank?? then i add it to the tank.

don't laugh guys. but is clorox bleach a detergeant? the lable on my bottle came off years ago. its the basic white bottle with a blue cap. I'll probly look it up on google but thought i'd just ask.

oh i just thought of another question. should i be worried about alge on the plants? and putting them back into the tank?

wow man i've bought fish books before. but you guys have knowlege on a whole different level. thanks guys.

I've used even stronger bleach solutions on plastic plants and rocks soaked for well over 24 hrs before so no reason you couldn't bleach a bucket. Like others said, I just rinsed em REALLY good after then soaked em in plain water with dechlorinator to be on the safe side.
