what do bleekeri require when it comes to the water chemistry does anyone know? i heard they are similar to sa cichlids.

That is correct, very similar to your typical CA/SA setup, try your best to avoid extremes, and otherwise should be good.

According to the book "Endemic Cichlids of Madagascar" the Paratilapines are found in varying habitats in Madagascar. Everything from highly alkaline to black water swamps. But I agree with Cichlaholics, if you stay middle of the road you should be fine.
I had them a few years back, with a dry spell, and just picked up 5 this weekend at the Chicago classic, always some of my favorites.

I concur with duanes. In all my research, reading postings for the past 3 years by a group of experts in fish Malagascy, and having a P. polleni myself, they are used to a variety of conditions by history. When rivers on the island flood, the fish would not only get all kinds of runoff, but other streams and rivers (some brackish) would wash into the mix. They aren't so far away in generations to have adapted to prissy fish that need water a particular way, but as noted, as with any "kept" critter, extremes aren't too good. Enjoy!!
