Hello Everybody,

I recently purchased two Rainbow Snakeheads. They're so damn cute they're only abt 2 inches. i think i got a male and a female because although they're the same age one is noticably bigger and the area around his gill plates are fatter. I read somewhere that this usually means a male in bleheris.

Anyways I have two of them in a 50g. planted tank with a red clawed crab. They are kinda shy at the moment and i dont know if this is normal behaviour for juvi bleheri's or they're just really scared. I wanna get some dither fish to put in there. I was thinking of putting maybe a rainbow shark. Is this a good idea? What other dither fish could i put in there?

THanks
will post pics soon. WHen the fish come out

You can basically put in anything that is to big for the SH to eat. I now have a big Black Calvus living with my three

I would keep an eye on that crab as they can be little buggers with nipping fins. I also think the rainbow shark would not get on well with the bleheri as they will compete for territory. Can you get Denison's barbs in your area as they are also from India? :)

Thanks for the replies. That what i was worried about matt. I cant get much fish where i am the two lfs near me both kinda suck balls. The rainbow sharks are the only other fish at the LFS that i though was nice. Everything else was either a goldfish or either sometype of neon or a tetra

Are you i Brighton or Hong Kong?

I had some success with a group of Botia Dario, 5. That seemed to bring them out of there shell. When I got mine they were very shy, once settled they were fine.

I did however lose one through the smallest hole so be carefull with gaps in the hood.

The door swing both ways here. Channa bleheri is an unaggressive snakehead; they do need some hiding places. Try not to put it in with larger cichlids as they are territorial and will kill it. A few years ago I put one in my dads tank full of Angels and they were fine(much to his disgust) The thing it anything to small he will eat anything to big will eat him so just work round that.

Are they commonly called yo yo puffers? I see my bleheri's come out sometimes and i can see them peaking through the plants to have a look at me but once i get close or move they dash back in. The bigger of the two is a little braver and will come out sometimes. I just want them to be happy and stress free. The last bleheri i had was fine. After only being in the tank for 2 hours i had him eating dried krill out my hand. That jumped outta my tank and got stuck between the light and piece of glass..
I'm in Brighton at the moment for uni.

Hi scratch ,

a friend of mine is housing his bleheri with a couple of endler-guppies.
It works just fine, the bleheri are only interested in each kind of worms and didn`t kil a guppy till now.
