I just got 3 silver dollars from a friend that was moving... I know nothing about Silver Dollars, other than their living params needed. so I was a little perplexed when I noticed a change in their eyes from my tank to his...

He had these fish in a 55 gallon tank, with NO heater. His water temp was 62F- my water temp is 76F. So, I got them home, dropped them, floated them, and released them.

I was convinced they were going to die, as all the silvers laid on their sides on the bottom of the tank. I turned the light off, and let them go. Came back an hour later, and they were all swimming around and fine, but there is a white film over their eyes that was not there originally..

I thought it was maybe from the temp difference, like when your glasses fog up, but it's actually on the eye..

here's a pic..

usually a film like that is the result of two things:

1. water quality issues (doubtful assuming you have been keeping up with your water changes)

or

2. damage to the eyes during transport and/or netting. this is probably the case here.

I usually do a water change and add some freshwater aquarium salt to clear up scrapes like this. it should resolve with some TLC.

good luck! nice SD's!

I do a 25% water change every other day with gravel vacuuming.

I don't see how it would be on all the SD's, ALL of their eyes if it was netting. They were bucket transported 5 mins down the road. All other fish that were transported are fine.

I was going to salt, but was not sure of their tolerance.

Also, what can I feed them? I know they are plant eaters.. The person was feeding them goldfish flakes. :screwy:

crazy man, wish i could help but i dont know where to start now. next time i'd recommend setting up a drip system to help them acclimate
