i just saw a tank of these at a lfs the other day and i just remembered them. from what i could tell they were just blood parrots with their tails cut off and dyed magenta. anybody else seen these at all? next time i'm out at the place i'll have to get a picture of them. i also saw a blood parrot in a "malawi reef" african tank. i had no idea bp's were african :grinno:

haha sorry, i thought that was were i posted it. i guess i wasn't in the section i thought i was in.. jack daniel's will do that to you i guess??

i'm glad that you usually are the first to say this most of the time... glad your on top of things...

as for the OP yes they are common, and yes they have had their tails cut off at a young age. search for sweet heart parrots and i'm sure you will find all sorts of photos of them.

i do not promote these fishes and thus i must advise against any purchasing them. ;)

i have one which i got for free, my lfs orders them like that kinda cruel in my opinion such heartless people.

i had no thought on getting one, i personally don't like blood parrots but i just thought it was weird that they cut the tails off. i can't imagine doing that to a fish just to sell it as a new fish, it's pretty messed up.

i have seen pics of flowerhorns have look the same. tails made to look like they were never there. the tail is one of my favorite fins and parrot tails are awesome. i don't see why anyone would buy them. they don't always dye them though. they are starting to breed very red parrots now.

so i went back out to the lfs today to look at their used filters and figured i'd take a picture of the fish i was talking about. also i noticed they had a jack dempsey x convict, the picture really doesn't show any jd at all.. mostly because i had to use the zoom and the cam on my phone is a**. i was also wondering if anyone could tell me if that last fish is a trimac or a fh. it's labeled as fh but i think it looks more trimac and is only twenty bucks so i might pick it up.
