Hi everyone,
I have had this fish for a while now but thought I'd post pics because he's good looking and I've never seen this hybrid. I stopped in to one of my lfs to reup on frozen food and they had a few bags floating in the tanks that looked like they were full of dead fish. There had been some miscommunication between the store and supplier and these were a delayed and unexpected shipment. I saw the bag floating with these guys in it and was really interested in them. No one knew what they were for sure because they hadn't ordered them. The manager wrote them off as sb pink cons. Since they were barely hanging onto life at the moment I figured I'd wait a few days and come back to see if any were able to recover. I came back about a week later and there were only 2 in the tank. Both males with one chasing the other constantly. I brought home the less dominant one and he's quickly become one of my favorites. He stands his ground but isn't overly aggressive, has a very slight nuchal hump, beautiful rainbow coloration in his fins and a crooked little bp mouth. Because of his mouth and build I've been figuring that he's a cross between a bp and a pink con. Either way, he's a cutie with a personality to match.

A batch of those just came into a LFS near me. There was one male out of the group with a good sized nuchal hump that I was debating on picking up but decided against. But I'd agree with BP x convict

They're nice looking. I'd say if u have the space and compatible tank mates go for it. How much is ur lfs selling them for? I wonder if the males have the same issues with being sterile. It would b interesting to cross (again) with a bp parent and see what comes out.

Nice

They are actually short body/balloon pink cons. They aren't actually crossed with parrots despite the body and mouth shape. I've bred BP to pink con and they don't come out looking like that. At least not F1.

Male short body cons are fertile as they are not hybrids. The short body gene is recessive though so you need to breed short body to short body.

There's some good info on these guys here.
