Hi all

2 of my parrots seemed to have shacked up, they were pit digging most of the day yesterday, no eggs as of yet. One is your average orange and the other is a unfaded one around the same size.
Now the unfaded seems to be in breeding dress (VERY dark stripes) and seems to be the one defending the "nest" so am i right in presuming this one is the male? The orange tends to hover in the "nesT" so to speak?
Im aware i wont get any young, just trying to figure out who is who type thing. My male convict and the unfaded are constantly bickering, so im guessing its male?
The con ignores the other parrots, so its always baffled me why those two hate each other so much, its 100 gallon, so theres no injuries as of yet, just "scuffles" There was alot of debate of the sex of my convict also, so im hoping by solving one question, it will answer the other.

Thanks Guys

Can't tell much from the pic, do either have a tube dropped underneath? Usually the female with drop and the males won't have much if any change. I have also had two parrot females pair off and dig and lay eggs together. I do see what might be a tube on the unfaded one, but too fuzzy to tell.

Imo the stripe one is the female...my females do the same thing turn dark with stripes

Hard to tell. it is rare for them to breed in captivity.

as opposed to WHERE??? the WILD??/

lol i just couldnt resist taking that one.
I know what you mean though, but a better phrasing might be something like

it is rare for babies to appear in the average home aquarium, or
it is difficult or uncommon for the average blood parrot hobbyist to get any viable fry

lol sorry i just had to pounce on that one : )

lol, i really dont expect fry! i actually didnt really want any to pair up. No eggs as of yet, just lots of aggression and lots of pit digging and pot cleaning. The breeding colours on the striped one of IMMENSE well not quite that good, but there certainley impressive, ill upload a few pics tonight.*

I find it funny tho, the MALE convict (if we're playing it that way) keeps attacking the female (striped from what i can tell) and totally ignores the orange, HE keeps teasing the pair, quite funny to watch
