I have two blood parrots of similar size. One in a 20 gallon that I have had since July, another slightly smaller juvenile that I have had since October who is living in my 55 gallon community tank. I finally got around to putting my older BP into the 55 gallon tank only to find constant fighting. From the moment the bps saw each other through the plastic bag, they started attacking each other. I was changing the water and moving around all the plants and other decor around prior to releasing the older one into the tank. I shut the lights and the next morning, my older BP was still following the other BP around, even into it's hiding places and ramming it.

Does anyone else have this kind of experience or any suggestion on what I can do? Is it too late for them to just get along? I have heard that they do get more agressive if they are not introduced together when they are younger. Also, I do have a few clown loaches in there, which the BPs ignore.

you really should keep more than 2 parrots to avoid the aggression focused on just one fish, they will fight for domination.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the inputs, I have since removed one of the BPs from the tank. The older BP kept following the newer BP and ramming it. There were some torn fins, but all of it seems to be repaired after a few days of separation.

I asked some fish stores in the area, some of them seem to think if BPs have lived alone for a while, they like it kept that way, whereas if they have lived with each other since they were younger, they tolerate each other.

I've had to separte two of my BP in the beginning for a while... Once I introduced more BP into tank I added the separated one back in and he seems fine now with more BP in the tank.
