I have four blood parrots - there tank is healthy and water conditions are in good shape -- there are no other fish in the tank but all the parrots do is hide. i drop food in they eat (takes about 30 sec.) and then go back into hiding. i thought they would get used to the tank and stop hiding but its been about four months since i got them and no change. anything i can do to help this?

Yeah some parrots can be like that. My largest is very outgoing but the smaller is timid and hides most of the time. I really don't know what to do about it; how large are they?

they are all about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches . beautiful fish when they actually come out

wait till they get bigger, mine hid till they were about 4", now they sit at the front of the tank and stare at me all night till i feed em, sorta creepy.:nilly:

how fast do they grow -- compared to oscars? I had the last oscars from the time they were less than 1 inch till they grew into 12 to 14 inch monsters (try explaining to someone who's never kept oscars why you have to keep bricks on your tank because your oscars like to knock the top off whenever they get hungery)-- lost them to a heater malfunction useing the tank to house the blood parrots now

They grow nowhere near as fast as oscars. Get some dithers. Something like giant danios or something of the like. Dithers are usually used to distract aggression, but also to bring out shy fish.

Mine did the same. I got them when they were about an inch or so. They hid, and I was disappointed bc they are so cute, and I wanted to look at them. Now I can't even go past the tank before they are all up front, watching where im going and what i am doing lol. Some fish are just shy like that, but they will come around. Don't worry :)

ok, i guess i'm just used to oscars- my last few hid for about a week then would watch me every time i walked by and get mad if they didn't get fed. May try the dither idea , need to go by the pet store anyway-the bearded dragon is out of crickets and very unhappy about it!:WHOA:
