Ok... well today while at my lfs i spotted a beautiful purple parrot (or blood parrot dont really think there's a difference besides color so for this thread ill call them blood to avoid confusion) and it the guy gave it to my for a killer deal cus he knew i always wanted it... anyway now i dont know what to do with it...

i got it in with my bichir (senegal) in a 60 gal tank and at first he seemed to be doing fine him and the bichir are getting along fine, but he is now hiding on the bottom on top of the drift wood....there really isnt a place big enough for him to hide under the drift wood so is that probably causing the stress?

I was thinking about a large clay pot for a hiding spot for now until he getsa comfertable? idk any better ideas? cheap would be nice...

and other than getting him a place to hide is there anything else i can do for him? im feeding bloodworms and i was gonna try the hikari sinking carnivor pellets when i get mine in from petsmart online.

beautiful fish but i dont know much about him....

thanks for any help

I'm not an expert...I am still new, but I can tell you what I have done with my bp's. I have 4 of them. At first they were swimming around and then they hid too, esp when I would approach the tank. Slowly and surely they would get used to me. Just like my other fish. My bp's are not that fond of hikari pellets, but then again I haven't really tried hard enough to feed them that. I usually give them flakes, blood worms, baby shrimp, and brine shrimp. And for some reason they also like to steal the wafers I give to my pleco. I think your fish will come around, he is still new so its quite normal for them to hide. I would though get plants or something big enough for him to hide behind where he can feel safe.

Your bp should be fine... just needs time to adapt, and they adapt pretty quickly! You should get he/she another bp to hang out.. they do great in groups, and are so much fun to watch!

I agree, BPs are experts at wedging themselves under any object possible out of shyness. I have a smaller one that will lie sideways underneath driftwood, looking close to death, but it's just that he chooses that spot over a flowerpot. They're interesting creatures!

thank you natalie you answered my next question befor i asked it. my bp is wedging under driftwood too. i put a older decoration in on its side to make a cave and added some driftwood to give a little better hiding spot.

Ok so what else can go in whit blood parrots and a bichir?

i want to get a few more fish but not sure what to put in seeing its only a 60
