Ok, I have a fertile male Carpintis that I'm looking to pair up with a female kkp, my lfs has some in stock, my question is how can I tell male from female? I've never owned any blood parrot fish before? Any insight will help,
For me, BP are tough until they get a little on the larger side and you can vent them or can see ovipositor while swimming in tank. I actually have a female I was going to trade into lfs but she is probably about 5” if you are close to Hazleton Pa you can have her.

Thx anyway but I'm in Long Island a little bit of a hike for me, the b/ps they have in stock or about 4&1/2" I'm not able to vent them but figured they were large enough to make a comparison
Few things to look for:
1...Thick vent like in the pic below. Most will not be this obvious and will barely show till she’s preparing to spawn or has just spawned.
2...Nice intense red/orange coloration on some females I’ve had and becomes rather pale after spawning.
3...Look for 2 that has paired off and pick out the female. The pair may have a spot they’re defending by chasing off tankmates.
