Hello MFK, I am a new member on this site but have been researching periodically and learning so much from all of your amazing posts/forums.

Hope I found the right place to post my questions. I have a few tanks, mostly SA Cichlids, with my 60G “Predator Tank” being my favorite by far.

I would like to hear from anyone with experience keeping Blood Parrots with any other similar sized or interesting cichlids.

I have 1 BP, Jack, about 5” and have had success keeping him with a variety of other cichlids (big and small) in the past. He’s very curious and smart, and not aggressive. I used to have him with a similar sized Flowerhorn (odd, I know, but I acquired him sick and nursed back to health). They used to swim together and would never bother each other. Anyways I don’t have the FH anymore and wanted to get ideas for another “buddy” for Jack.

I did also have him with a female GT, but got tired of her bullying Jack whenever she was getting ready to lay her eggs. Sorry for the long post and background story, any ideas help thank you! :)

Mine is with a banded leporinus (evil), Jack Dempsey, convict (his wife), and dither fish. All get along well enough.

Not confident that the Dempsey will allow that full grown though.

Update here. So after talking to my LFS, turns out that Jack might be a Jaqueline? And the owner highly suggest I invest in another FH buddy for him since he has gotten along so greatly with his previous FH friend. My tank might be getting a whole new makeover so stay tuned ?

Be careful. One nice flowerhorn does not mean the other will be. Most can be nasty. Luckily parrots breed with just about anything. Hard to say if male or female, but as far as I know the only sure fire way with parrots is seeing them lay eggs. FINWIN FINWIN has some weird parrot stories there.
