I'll just start off with this: I don't have the means to take a picture right now. So don't ask. About 2 weeks ago I purchased a still-fading orange parrot from a local shop at a discounted price, since they're moving. I liked the shape and the fact that it was in the process of fading, that's why I chose to get it. It's also approximately 4-5" or so. However, about a day later or so I went to take a look in the tank, and noticed that this fish has pearls. I'm not talking like this fish has fading marks that look like pearls. I'm talking straight up, pearly pearls only on it's tail and on the tail's base. Anyone know anything about parrots with pearls? They do not seem to be changing color/fading/etc., and while the black splotches from fading have continued to change color, the pearls remain, unchanging.

One quick other question: I know that venting parrots is easy, but I haven't had the time or ambition to try venting yet. I've read in numerous places that male parrots will have a pink area underneath their mouth and gills that changes color when the fish is excited. Is this true? How reliable is the "pink under the gills is a male parrot" theory?

Killin fader? LOL It's hard to even get an idea of how it looks like without a picture. I tried the pink around gills method, totally failed lol. I got a male. At the petstore it was chill and didn't show pink at all but once I took it home it started coloring up:irked:. Stick to venting. You won't fail with that method.

Not a blood parrot, but as close as what I've seen so far if you were to talk about one with pearls. Here's mine...he' no longer with me. Swimming in its own world now.
