Hey guys I don't usually frequent in the cichlid forums but after seeing all of the great colors of these cichlids I might have to get a couple. A question on their color though is it going to last their lifetime, or is it just an injection that wears off in a few months? How are their temperments? Are they a true cichlid or more passive? Do they require anything specific for care? I was thinking about keeping 1 or 2 of them in a 44 pentagon with an African Butterfly, Some Cory Cats, a Pleco, Couple of Rams and Gouramis, at a PH of 6.6-7.0 Temp of 78-82. Thanks for any of your help

the blood parrots, with colors such as purple, blue, and green- which are sometimes called jellybean parrots, yes they are dyed, and that is harmful to the fish, makeing them short lived, and prone to dieseas., but if you are getting at the normal red ones, alot have that as a natural color, if you decide to keep them a 44 hex, probably would be alright, with those other fish, and those parameters.

this is true they also dye the clas fish or whatever! with green and pink. but there are plenty nice parrots out there that arent died some hybrids look under that forum some of them are pretty nice!

I have two right now in a 55g tank, mine are the typical orange-reddish coloration, not dyed. I would suggest taking a look at those instead of the dyed fish. Buying dyed fish, will only promote more 'dying' fish. (pun intended). I personally don't think that a 44g hex is large enough for two Blood parrots. The two I have now hardly get along in the 55g I have now, and terrorize my dithers. They ate all of my cardinal and penguin tetras, and eat like mad. I don't think the rams or gouramis would fair well in that situation. If you have to have one, then I say only one, but the outcome might not be what you want.

allright thx alot for all of your help guys I will be sure not to buy any of the "Jellybean" parrots. I will probably get one so I don't overcrowd the tank and will watch out for the smaller fish. Thanks again for your help it is greatly appreciated!
