I brought about 8 blood parrots when they were juvies.

Now about half of them have gill curl and the other half dont. I keep them with other blood parrots which grew up fine.

My question is, is it genetics that these new batch are getting them? my water quality seem fine.

Also now that they have gill curl, is there a way to fix it without surgerical procedures?

They are the size of golf balls at them moment.

Cheers.

I had the same problem with my hybrids and i had to use some mineral salt
but u have to do it asap or is going to stay like this !!
the sera mineral salt worked fine!

The problem is ive been neglecting them, they have had the gill curl for some time now. Not sure how long and if its "became hard" but it is definiately noticable. I've tried salt and it didnt seem to do anything. Some people say to use a strong current?

Any thoughts.

well the gill problem starts when the quality of the water is poor ,fish need some
mineral in there water, the only treatment that i know is this, use mineral salt and do some water changes every other day for a week and u may see some improvment !
post some pics if u can i may help u more on this !

mineral salt shud help lots.... GL

ok - this is gonna sound stupid...what is mineral salt? Is this a specific type of salt I should get from my LFS. I have been using natural salt without iodine.
