If your not planning to breed them then who cares right? Well i have 6 of them and really love them, they have a very unique personality and always full of life especially when they are well adapted to their enviorment and kept in groups of at least 4 and up. They are very friendly and are peaceful fish. Although the large ones can hold their own battle with similar sized fish if threatened. But they make really good community fish! To me, they look really cute!

love mine he is like a cat every time you walk by the tank he follows you
awesome need more

They aren't all sterile. Here's a link proving it:

Just make sure you don't get dyed ones. It's cruel and supporting the people who dye them. There are such thing as natural colored ones. Make sure the one you get doesn't have black spots. You can find the page on the above link that explains that black spots are really "Black Spot Disease" which is usually only seen in blood parrot cichlids. It isn't necessarily fatal, but it can't be treated easily, either.

I have a pair that are great fun. They breed and lay eggs, but the plecos and pikes eat them, so I have no idea if they are sterile. Fanatastic personality- altho, my boyfriend and I do joke that they are maybe, "not so bright", if you know what i mean.

these ugly little monkey's make great ditcher and feeder fish too!.... :D
