I bought a blood parrot yesterday on a whim, when i researched the fish, i noticed a lot of people do not approve and there are actually boycott type groups........ Just curious what people here think?

Thanks

People were protesting the "bubblegum" types that were dyed. I have 3 and think they are the easiest, most gentle cichlids I've ever had... never any issues with them. I think they are adorable.

I don't know....but I have 2 of them in my 220 Gallon.... And my last dog was a mutt ...lol part this and part that...... But I didn't botcott my dog....lolol.... :)

i see parrots as no different from flowerhorns, mixed dogs, cats or people.im sure some will break it down to why its ok for some but not the rest but for myself i except them all as they are.

@ jen ya the dyed ones for sure

@rud thats a real good point

I dig my new one, he eats fine, and looks really cool

Awesome

Anybody here disapprove of them?

^ You're always going to come across people who find them as "unnatural", "ugly", "a disgrace to the hobby", etc. I've owned several and they're some of my favorites, even though they're hybrids.

Be careful with your current stocklist in that 55. It should hold ONE of those fish, not all five. It's way overstocked both in space and aggression.

They dont fight and everyone but the jack is under 4 in

But really?

"ONE" fish in a 55?
I have other tanks but damn

Unfortunately it's the sad reality of keeping aggressive Central American cichlids. Blood parrots reach 6-8 inches, and everyone else in your stocklist reaches 10-14 inches. Aggression-wise, Green Terrors, Texas, and Midas are extremely aggressive. And yes, the minimum size for each of the cichlids you have is at least 55 gallons, per fish, solo.

Well thank you , ill be able to run three 55s in a couple mos but im gonna be honest, ill have a couple fish in each one as long as they dont start destroying one another
