I saw an article in Freshwater and Marine Aquariums magazine (FAMA) about allergy to bloodworms. I have had severely red and itchy eyes a couple of times after feeding frozen bloods, as well as itchy skin on my hands nearly every time. Has anyone else had this problem?

What about other allergies or skin conditions that you think are due to your aquariums???

i work with a girl that cant handle them or she breaks out in a rash and gets pretty miserable on any area that they've come in contact with. dunno why i but i never thought that would do that to people.

There are also a couple of threads here on the subject.

The packages I buy actually have an allergy warning on the label. I don gloves to handle the packages, thaw the pieces in a catch box, and feed out the worms by pouring the requisite amount into the designated tanks. I then, do not put my hands in those tanks until after a hefty water change. If I start to feel a reation, I keep Germ-X in the hatchery that I apply after washing my hands.

I've had bloodworm juice squirt into my eye once. That hurt!

Other than that incident, I've never had any adverse reaction to the stuff, but I always make sure to wash w/ anti-bacterial soap after handling it.

The only reaction I had is itchy hands.:) But I find it annoying.:irked:

I have a Son who is 34 years old and is allergic to meal worms. Contact allergy, he doesn't eat them.

Oh, well that's good...that your son doesnt eat them, that is. By the way, welcome to MFK!

Too bad, they are good on pizza, as they add a slightly vinegary zing.
