I'm guessing they are blackworms. Bloodworms turn into flys.

I don't know anything about blood worms, but I'm pretty sure most simple animals do indeed reproduce at fair rates. Whether this applies to blood worms is pure guesswork for me. I almost expect them to all be eaten before they can actually reproduce, so I will be interested to see how that turns out.

Those look like tubifex worms. They'll feed your fish. Population control can be accomplished with regular gravel washes.
