Will my Blood parrots always be shy and stay in his log. Only seems to come out when no one is around .

I have had them both for about a year . He is pretty big I would say maybe 4 to 5 inches from mouth to tail. And the other one is about three
Update today. My larger one got stuck in the log I had for them in there. I helped him out and removed the log. Now they both are swimming around and even comes to the glass when I go up to it . Now asking what is something else they like in the aquarium. I do like the fact the are both out finally and swimming around so do I need something in tank or not ?
