I keep getting problems (read "saddest wolf story) with my new red wolf. I got my 6 inch wolf last Sunday. I put him in my 30 gal with polys senegals but the senegal keep attacking my new wolf until I had to separate him in a frickin 10 gal tank!! For the offended guys, I'm sorry but That was the only safe tank that I had available. anyways I keep my poor wolf in a 10 gal (for now) with gravel, a plastic plant and a small pot. Yesterday (Tuesday) at night I decided to try to feed my wolf. Once I touched the tank lid, the wolf suddenly freaked out for "no reason". How did that happen. Anyway, after a minute of crashing in his small tank, he finally stopped. I realized that he had a bloody and torn lip. What the heck happened there? Will the lip heal? Should I remove anything in the tank? Thanks.

So far I us the antibacterial Melafix medicine to try to heal his lip. Will that help?? On the bottle labe says "can heal open cuts."

You should kind of calm down when posting about your wolffish. Maybe one thread will all the questions, rather than a thread every 10 minutes with a new question.

Open sores heal, chances are she got hurt when she was freaking out. Melafix or even clean water should fix that. If you really want help with the wolf, post some pictures.

Did you try feeding her feeders? Nervous wolves aren't going to come out and eat in front of you. When a wolf is nervous, it can only really eat feeders since she is only coming out at night.

She may also be nervous because her tank is too small, bright or doesn't have enough good hiding areas that she knows she can retreat to if necessary.

BTW, weren't you going to try to sell her?

your wolf will get hurt all the time. when my wolf hits his food hard i have to put all decorations back in place.

All 3 wolves that I've had either had a torn up lip or forehead... It's completely normal for them because they are strong fish who are prone to bump into things hard.

The red wolf that I had took a couple of weeks to come out in the open and kill tank mates. Before that I never saw good evidence of him eating, but he always had a full tummy so he was eating after all.. Try dimming the lighting with paper towels underneath, they don't like bright lights too much.

For now, the 10 gallon tank is fine but shouldn't be in there for much longer.
You're selling him in Ontario correct? Try posting it on kijiji, wolves go quick there, but I'd lower the price from $40 (I got mine for nearly half that at Big Al's).

Wolves generally hurt themselves when introduced to new enviorments, they heal then jump and heal again. Go get that guy a larger tank 40 breeder or bigger and he'll come down then eat. Being in such a small space isn't helping your cause. Also you got some down right nasty Sengalus - I've never seen or heard til now of a Bichir of any species flat out attacking another species of fish with malice.
