I know my tank is a bit over stocked at the moment I'm upgrading in the summer or spring. It's a 55 gal with some plants. I do weekly or twice a week 40% wc/vacuum. Ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 10. Ph 7 temp 75F
I have had this fish for almost 1 year. He has spawned 8 times but is still small 3". The female I got at the same time at 1" has grown way more then him. she is 4.5" and looks great. He started looking thin about 4 month ago around the time I moved the female out they were not getting along. I though it was just stress or that the female was a food hog. Today he looks thiner. Only in his stomach. He eats but not as much as the others. I caught him fighting with my EBJD that's 3" about the same size. I moved some stuff around in the tank so I think they were fighting over the new rock. They don't ever lip lock like this. In fact the blue acara is the king of the tank. He pushes the other fish around.
I treated them with medicated food for internal bacteira he ate the food. I have treated them for ich when my new fish brought it to the tank. I'm now treating for internal parasites with medicated food. He does not like the food. All poop looks good. It was string for a few days when I did some major work on the tank and freaked all the fish out. I feed a mix of food, Algea flakes, cichld pellets, and krill. He eats it all.
Why is he so skinny I'm thinking he is just not a good strong fish. I had bother blue acara male that was always bigger then him and I got them all the same time at 1". I don't get it my other fish are great the EBJD is growing well mine severum is growing like a weed it's amazing, my new rescues Geo. Bahia red had Hole I head when I got him and that's clearing up fast.
Could this male just be a dud. Could he be just geneticaly weak? I never did grow out the fry they had. I don't get it.
Here he is 4 month ago when I noticed he was not growing as well as my female.
He looks like he has a short body to me. I will get a new photo of him soon.
