blue acara

Keep africans with africans, and americans with americans...mixing the two isn't a good idea. That being said, 29gal is really too small for africans, unless you plan on keeping some of the smaller Lake Tang fish, such as shellies and multis, brichardi or any of the similar complexes, julies, etc. It won't work for Malawis. Why not do just a pair of acaras?

:iagree:

imo even a single pair of blue acaras will need larger than a 29 gallon. males can grow from 6-8". maybe an individual blue acara could be kept in a 29, but a pair would need larger as they reach adulthood imo. :)

I would agree but there are a few oddball africans that could be kept with americans sutch as large spot, small spot polleni and jewels(5 spot) but like they said all the fish mentioned get way too big for a 29

sounds great :D in the 75 you should be able to keep a good size school of dithers with them. personally I'd go for a larger rainbow species (milleniums are gorgeous :grinyes: ). if you want to stick to a South American theme then maybe a large tetra species or silver dollars. oh, and a huge group of corys :D

I had a pair of Blue Acara in a 77 with 6 boesmanis and 4 bolivian rams. The Acaras bred 4-5 a year and grew into beautiful fish. I believe this is mostly because they had alot of room.

If I were to do it again, I would bot include the rams. They lived with the Blue Acaras for 2 years, but they did not thrive.
