Hello, I have a friend who’s getting rid of a polypterus delhezi about 4 inches and I was wondering if I could add him to my 180 gallon tank that has a few blood parrots and a shortbody Texas and a few blue Botia loaches? The loaches don’t seem to be aggressive but considering there the only other bottom feeders in the tank I’m wondering if they’ll fight with the new polypterus delhezi ?

Tbh I would worry about the cichlids but in that size aquarium the Delhezi may be fine.
Do you think the cichlids are in any danger when the delhezi gets older? The shortbody texas is pretty tough tbh
I don't know but when my senegal was about that size and it had smaller clown loaches in the tank, my loaches started dying off, it most likely picked on them while sleeping. Maybe depends if your loaches are bigger.
Perhaps short term, but I don't believe Blue Botias get very large in the long run, so they would become food for the bichir.
No only if small enough to be swallowed whole. The cichlids may harass the delhezi if it gets in their space. The aquarium is large enough so hopefully shouldn't have any problems. Also make sure delhezi is getting food.
I think as long as the loaches are sizable, 5-6" at least, they should not be targeted by the delhezi. Dont these polys only reach 10-12"?

I remember there has been a case on this forum of a Bichir choking on a Clown Loach due to the spines. Both were lost. I expect this will be a similar risk with all Botia. So at least consider this risk.
