Was just watching the news and they just ran a story with local fisherman about blue cats. They say that snakeheads pose little threat compared to what the blues are doing. They say the blues are putting big dents in the blue crab and rockfish populations. Says they are reproducing like crazy and pose the biggest invase threat that the chesapeke bay has ever seen. http://www.myfoxdc.com/story/28627532/blue-catfish-invading-local-waterways

Meanwhile they're in low numbers in their native range. Their should be a project where they pay fishermen a fish dollars per blue cat which can then be trucked over in beds of water to the Ohio, Mississippi, Missouri, etc rivers where their natural range is.

Nahhhhh, that would be bad idea. Don't need to mudding up the genetics of already existing blue catfish populations.

Done by biologists or just another media runaway? They said the snakehead would take over and I doubt it will, I can't even catch one. Tried a couple times last year. If they were a big issue they should look and see if there is any way to get the mercury levels down in these waterways and more people would catch and eat them. Lots of rednecks out my way, and we love to catfish! Plus this tidbit, last year they opened a winter crab dredging season for the commercial guys. So if they are expanding the seasons on crabs, there shouldn't be a shortage....right? Just my thoughts

It was done by biologists.

what they need to do is get the commercial fisherman the hell out of the rivers over here where the blue catfish are dwindling in numbers and big ones impossible to find. They are taking a public resource and selling it to private paylakes where the fish die and then they net some more. If maryland doesnt want them, send the commercial guys over there and leave the Miss, Ohio and Wabash alone.

Did they say where on the Potomac they were thickest. I'll plan a trip for sure. I would assume they were talking about the lower area of crabs and stripes are a concern
