Okay, I'm saving up for a new tank right now, but I am curious. How big will a blue channel cat actually get?
Ive seen various things said, from 2 feet to 4 feet, from 60 pounds to 100+.
Mine is currently about 19 inches, and really pissed that I haven't been able to afford the new tank yet.
Who out there know how big these get really? 2... even 2 1/2 feet I am good with, 4 on the other hand, I will eventually release him.

depends if its just a normal channel he should get about 2 foot, where you releaseing him a pond, best not release it to the wild

They won't get much over 2 ft in an aquarium but can get a little bigger in the wild. 20lbs is a monster channel cat, the info that you see that says 60-100lbs is a blue cat, not a channel cat.

The releasing into the wild thing I knew was gonna get a comment, but it's fine. I was going to release him at the "city center pond". Oddly enough, people are encouraged to release pets that they can no longer care for. It's an enclosed pond, man made as it were, and the pier that goes across has little vending machine type things that spit out fish food pellets. He may end up being the biggest thing in the pond, but there are plenty of cats in the pond.
No fishing signs are posted, and that's actually what made me choose this place. If I do end up moving to Tennessee like I plan on, I was going to keep him. Building an outdoor pond for him.

Just to show what I have exactly. The identifying fins being the ones where the glare is (of course) I was going to take a new picture of him, but he doesn't want to cooperate right now. This pic makes him look a lot more gray than he is.

Do not release any fish in pubic lake/pond as its illegal no matter if its manmade or not.

"won't get over 2 ft in an aquarium" doesnt mean they wont stop at 24 inch long.
