I've just woken up an checked on my dats... An one seems to have a blue like cloud over on its eye... An another has got sort of one as if its starting... Could it be injury? Or something else???? Help!!!!!:cry::cry:

Yeah, nothing to be alarm about. But something you want to give some attention to. If he didn't have it before, its just cloudy eye. Keep pristine water and it should heal up fine. Not going blind or anything.

Cheers lads... Someone else has sed this...

Hi Kenny

Common problem with a lot of fish that have large, prominent eyes. They are vulnerable to both fight damage and getting knocked on something in the tank and very vulnerable to "bag rub" whilst in transit. I seem to recall that you said in another thread that you have five or six dats together, in the wild they are quite solitary and in a group in a tank they will struggle for dominance especially if the tank is not a big one. I had this problem a couple of months back and ended up splitting my four up into two 5 x 2 x 2 tanks having matched them for size. This seems to have worked for now, how much longer before I'm in to one per tank I'm not sure. Treatment wise you have a couple of options, Water life Myxazin will ensure that the cloudiness does not progress to become a nasty bacterial infection as will API product Melafix. Use one or other but not together! Hope it clears up soon, treat early for best results.

Regards

Jim

Shall i do both???? Add the Salt an treat with melafix?

Can be caused from banging its eye on something or poor water quality. Since 2 Dats got it around the same time, it would seem water quality. Check your params.

One of my Dats got some gloudy eye a few months back (one eye on one Dat - suggests damage from hitting somthing). I started doing water changes every other day and added kosher salt. Cleared up slowly over a couple weeks.

Adding melafix also will not hurt.

G/L and keep us posted.

I am talking about Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate.

Ammonia should be at 0
Nitrite should be at 0
and Nitrate should be as low as possible.

Usually Ammonia or Nitrite issues will have more serious issues then cloudy eye. I would check on your Nitrate. If it's really high, then that is most likely the cause.

What's your set up like? Tank size, how many fish and at what size are they, filtration, and water change schedule?

I have 4 indos - 3", 1 Silver Tiger (Dat Polota) - 6", 1 Mayan (false red terror) - 4" 3 BN plecs - 6" an 12 2" clown loach....

There in a 160g tank, below:

I do at least one 30% Water change a week due to work commitments (sometimes 2) an has a eheim pro2 external running on it filled with bio balls, ceramic rings and filter wool. It also has a Internal 1000lph filter for increased flowrate...

You do not have any real big fish, but you do have bunch of smaller ones.
Check your params, and that will tell you if you should cut back on feedings, do bigger water changes,
and add filtration.

As far as filtration, when you look up the gph/lph it actually tells you the flow rate when completely
empty without media, sponges, or filter pads. The flow rate is usually closer to half what is claimed
on the box once it is full. Going by this, your tank is getting turned over a little over 3 times an hour.
You will want to think about getting that number up. Especially once your fish start getting bigger.

But once you check your params, we can confirm or ignore my theories:D

I will check my params tomorow... Did a 50% water change tonight an added tiny bit of salt...

Heres a pic of the Dat with the Eye problem
