This is a picture of my paratilapia sm. spot 'Polleni' Blue Danube. I don't know for sure it's a female except from research. She stopped growing at 6 in., is 3 and a half years old, and has remarkable spangling. She's a bully, but one of my favorite fish nonetheless. A very difficult fish to photograph well.

Mine spends a lot of time hovering around the top of the tank by herself. I find it a little unsusual because about every other cichlid I've ever had seems to prefer hanging out in territories on the bottom. If she does swim around, it's usually to chase the spotted pims or rose line barbs who are quick enough to avoid her. Recently I had to move a pink tailed chalceus that she almost bullied to death. In a nutshell, I suppose you could describe mine's behavior as that of a typical moderately aggressive cichlid. As for polleni's as a whole, from what I've heard and read they seem to run the gamut from fairly passive to extremely belligerent. I suppose that doesn't help you much, but they really are beautiful fish. Mine has a nice deep black to her and her bright spangling consists of all types of subtle shades (which doesn't show due to my low end camera and even lower end photography skills).

Your Polleni is beautiful. I hope mine end up looking that good, but right now their still showing their ugly juvenile colors haha.

thnx for the info and i can relate to the poor camera skills, i think im the worst photographer on mfk! the jd in my avatar is actually a really dark color covered in bright blue spangles

the colors on that polleni are spectacular...and in response to post 2, they are very interactive fish, along the lines of oscars are generally characterized

Beautiful female. Mine also hangs out up near the filter and at first I thought something was wrong with her. Now i have a male and he's doing the same thing only on the other side of the tank. I had to put in a divider due to aggression.
