I don't know why it is that whenever I ask a tankmate question it's so specific but it always is.
This time I'm looking for blue dolphin tankmates. My specifications are below:

1.) Must fit into a proper biotope setting. I.E be found naturally near the dolphins or at least in the lake
*Tank is 55 gallons and will house 3 dolphins. Filtration is more than adequate.

2.) Must compliment the dolphins.
*Must minimally inhibit breeding.
* What number of these fish would you recommend?

3.) Must get to a respectable size of 3-4 inches.

I was thinking a pair of some kind of peacocks? Still I'd like to stay away from that of possible because they seem so average for my tastes.

Long term 55 is too small for these fish. But in larger tank yes peacocks would work well. May look at some synodontus cats

If the tank is bigger would you consider a large hap like D. compressiceps or kiwinge. They provide different look and behavior in contrast to the dolphins

Well, I have kept blue doplhins a few times.
I had a 10" male that became very aggressive to other Dolphins and blue haps (Deep water hap, Phenocallis, and even Copad Azureus).. So I would avoid other blue haps. Maybe I got a lone phsyco, but he literally harassed those other fish to near death. Not sure if all Dolphins become that aggressive when they are full grown (The smaller ones have always been mellow).
