blue eye pleco

I recently watched an episode of Tanked and they built a tank filled with barracudas and a rare blue eyed pleco. They mentioned the pleco cost $1000, it was about 8" long. Is this a realistic price for this pleco?

Don't know where you're basing that $500. The 2 available now that I know of are $750 to $1200.

Whoops forgot to say here where I'm from. Not just a general point. my lfs has had 3 or 4 can't remember and he had them for 500-600. My 10" guess might've been off by an inch or two smaller. But they were big. And $500

about 15-20 years ago a LFS would get in the occasional small (2"-3") blue eyed Pleco and I thought $120 was expensive. I guess I should have bought them all.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda. When I had them back in the 70s-80s large specimens carried a $30 retail pricetag. Asian aros, likewise, were $30-$60 for 6-8 inchers. If only I'd known then...

There's a company in Hawaii starting a blue eyed pleco breeding program. Don't know how big of a program it would take to bring the price down tho.
