My boss at work is after a bright blue fish to go in his 4 x 2 x 2 medium size comunity smallest fish is 10cm.

And he wants a bright blue fish can anyone think of any?

hrmm need a more detailed stock list.. but there are some nice blue colorations in platies. and the powder blue dwarf Gouramis.. opaline gourami.. german blue rams have some nice blue coloration to them. just off the top of my head.

Can you guys get electric blue jack dempseys in london? They would fit in your set-up pretty well.

EBJDs are not aggressive (IME), certainly not notably so . . . but they are considered to be prone to diseases, weaker than standard JDs . . . they are definitely blue, and an adult should grow to about 20cm

you haven't told us what fish your boss is currently keeping, so I would say it's tough to make a firm recommendation. can you tell us what is currently in the tank?

He has rainbows and angelfish in there. When the ebjd becomes full grown he might try to eat a rainbow. But, I doubt it.

you get some really nice blues in african cihlids but that wont work with your current stock
i would say ebjds as well another option is some blue angelfish or some rainbowfish that have some blue in em

I have heard of people keeping EBJDs with angelfish, less sure about the rainbows, but they should be fast enough to stay out of trouble . . .

I also know people keep discus with angelfish . . . you can find bright blue in a discus, but I also understand they are best kept in small groups, rather than single specimens . . . and they also have a rep as being more demanding (i.e., water conditions, water changes, etc.)

sorry, I don't think there is a good answer to the question. I think EBJD is best bet for a single blue fish . . .

if it doesnt have to be blue som geos would look awesome and stick with the biotope
