I've noticed the eggs that were coating the inside of the flower pot have been relocated and transformed into a teeming mass in a depression in the gravel. Will have pics soon. SICK

20 gal. plex, flower pot, valisneria, black estes sand, might still be 1 or 2 otocinclus and a few african dwarf frogs my wife forbade me to feed to the Dats when I moved the pair of JDs. They are like rabbits, not more than 2 days after relocating, they spawn!? Male is approx. 2", female about 3". Couldn't really get an angle on the fry but you might catch a glimpse of them in the lower right hand corner of one of the pics of the male guarding the clutch. Enjoy, I will keep all updated, wish us luck.

Congratulations. I have been trying to get an EBJD to breed with a regular to get BGs, but haven't had much luck. I tried male JD/female EBJD, and am now trying male EBJD, female JD. Any tips?

What I've heard, depending on which parent, or both parents, if the gene is present, meaning they came from clutches that had at least some EBJDs, you should get a corresponding ratio of individuals expressing the gene ( actual EBJDs, which you can see in the pics, mine are not). Of course, this is what I've heard and this is my first go round, but the pair did come from a clutch that had EBJD individuals. We shall see.

If the fish came from a brood of BG x BG, then they are not guaranteed to have the blue gene.

BG x BG gives you electric blues, blue genes, and regular jack dempsies.
BG x EBJD gives you electric blues, and blue genes.

I'm just trying to figure out how to get to the EBJD to breed with a regular jack though, i haven't got that far.

Oops, no real tips there. I started with 5, in a large tank with various other tank mates, rocks, dwood, plants, etc. First eggs got eaten up. Moved the pair to isolation (of sorts) and they spawned. Water is on the warm side 78-80F. Ph, parameters, are anyone's guess. I did perform a fairly large water change shortly after relocating them, the next day I think. Good luck to you Trashcan.

I have two breeding pairs, both BGxEBJD, both with EBJD females. I cannot get this suckers to breed! Its been almost 3 months now since both pairs had eggs the same day in the same tank! Ive fattened the females up and they both have their breeding tubes out and ive done huge water changes and turned the heat up and still nothing. I keep seeing people say that they take their pairs out and put them into smaller isolated tanks and boom they get fry! I just moved one of my pairs into a 30 gallon and they look like they are loving each other. Will see what happens by the end of this week
