Blue gene jack dempsey???

So im at my lfs today buying a divider for my fighting festaes and he has a tank full of small jack dempseys sizes from .5 inch to 1 inch...hes not sure if they are blue gene dempseys but he is sure that he sold him a 4 to 5 inch ebjd a few months ago and said he also had other dempseys in the tank...the blue on these small dempseys is the same blue on my ebjd and they are very nice dark looking fish...is there any way I can tell if they are bgjds??

You can't tell by appearance - only by breeding and looking at the resulting fry.
