I have a total of 8 blue genes and a gold blue gene for about a year now they are a about 4-6 inches haven't done anything for me and was getting tired of them put them up for sale and now they start to pair off and breed in the last 2 weeks I've had two spawns two separate pairs going so I'm going to see this spawn threw first one didn't really notice it till they were defending the wiggles in the tank so lost the fry from that batch . Hope fully these guys make it image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Should have told them a year ago that you were gonna sell them. Coulda had tons of babies by now!

Lol true

They live for 12 to 16 years. Why most people think they can purchase them and take em home and have them breed in under a year is beyond me...
Most LFS are selling YOUNG juveniles, just starting to come into sexual maturity. While they may be capable to some extent, the drive isn't there yet. Proof? They still all get along pretty good in those crowded store tanks... Let their hormones kick in full with their true territorial nature and you're not playing with juvies anymore.
Sure there's some early bloomers, it can happen very early at times, but that's not the norm.

I've got 26 BlueGene... Can't really say what they look like. The verticle banding is some sort of snakeskin pattern. The rest, well, still developing.

Yeah I got some from a guy in ny and another guy from mfk that breeds ebjd . I tried before bought like 20 ebjd to grow out in groups of 5 from different people . Out of 20 I had 5 make it to 5 inches . Two were deformed one went one just died from one day to the next two I had for a while and sold them to a friend . Now all that is left is these guy .I've bred festea many types of geos Red Devils dovi jags reg jacks angels discus and other South American cichlids just moving on to try rays now . Gonna be building a large pond and have been buying larger tanks to house them hopefully I have success . Either way I enjoy rays a lot so . Moving on . May be I'll try ebjd again later on down the line for now I will be selling them.

I do like your aviator it really makes me want to keep them cause I have them breeding but coming home and seeing my ray s swimming around the tank just is great to watch

Can't you keep the Dempseys with the rays? They are freshwater, right? And Dempseys do have a very broad range of water parameters they can be acclimated to... ph 6.0-8.0 very soft to moderately hard.
Seen a LFS keep rays with dovii, and a bunch of tiger shovelnose cats and some red tails

Don't want to run the risk of the jds hurting the rays . I would hate to see a 10 - 15 dollar fish kill my 250-$$$$ dollar ray . Plus I've had my ray kill some fish already doesn't seem to like company besides other rays

Makes sense... The ray I saw it done with also was about 3.5 ft diameter. Looks like you need bigger rays.
