IF he is carrying the gene, then yes, your female would have to have the gene too. It is recessive and so if the gene for regular is there at all, the eb gene will be suppressed. It has to be present in both parents. I would try to find a female, and breed them once to see. Typically, if both parents are carrying the gene, you will end up with an average of 30% of the fry being eb. If they breed once or twice without a single eb fry, then one or both of them don't have the gene.
