I have had two German Blue Rams for a while. They have bred once before. They lately have been aggressive and killed several cardinal tetras. I took this as a sign of breeding. This morning I woke up to find one dead. The female is alive and the male is dead.

Did the female kill the male because of breeding?

First of all.... sorry for your loss...

Second... what size tank and can you give a list of tank mates, is it planted, and stuff like that...

I have a spawning pair also and they have spawned 8 times now. The male shows a lot of aggression towards the female. They are in a 46 gallon. The more room you have the better for the other to get away. Is this aggression during spawning or after the eggs are done and they are grading them. I know in my pair, one of them end up eating the eggs to force the other to spawn again. I only had one spawn to go to swimmers for about 2 days.... then the late night buffet happened.

So can you give us more information then we can narrow it down for you.

They are in a 10 gallon planted tank.
Also in the tank:
3 cory
2 otos

There were 5 cardinals but the Rams killed them.

Ok... The rams need to sorry, ram need to be placed in a much bigger tank. If your not going to breed them and just keep them in a community tank, it needs to be larger. If they start to fight then the other one will have the room to flee. the reasone for the dead ram is probably tank size. durring spawning they can show more aggression and in a 10 gallon tank well the chase will last much longer and will stress the fish more. If you can, get a 30 gallon min. to a pair of rams. hope this helps...
