I've got a blue gourami that is about 2.5" that is acting wierd. It is just floating right at the top not hardly moving with its fins all folded in. My nitrates and nitrites are good and I have no ammonia and the water is about 78 degrees. It is in a tank with some african cichlids, but they don't bother him. Any ideas?

do you have good aeration and filtration?

I got good filtration, its never been a prob before, but the aeration is a little weak

Howdy,

That's weird. Blue Gouramis are among the hardiest fish ... The only thing I can think of is the pH. Since you mention African cichlids I assume your pH is quite high. That might be your problem. Have you had the gourami for a while, or is it a new addition? Judging from its size, it's either a young one or a female. Also, it might feel alone?!

The advice with aeration are bs since gouramis have an organ to breath air. That cannot be the problem.

I agree with harleyk.I have had blue gouramis in a tank with green terrors.Never had a problem.Gouramis are labrynth fish. They breathe air from the surface. I think your ph is too high. They like it around 6.8.
