hey all, i looked in my tank today and found my blue gourami to be very dark in color. i thought it might be a disease and turned on the aquarium light to start testing water parameters and the dark color faded to his normal coloration, but then when the light was turned off, the dark color came back. could this be a disease or mating coloration??

well, after some reading and observing, it appears that my blue gourami and opaline gourami are mating. my friend and i witnessed the blue gourami fold up around the opaline gourami and remain motionless as they sank towards the bottom of the tank, once they reached about midway down the tank, they both shook and we saw eggs released. unfortunately, i'm at college and cannot set up a breeding tank for them and the gold gourami appears to try to be snacking on the eggs. if at all possible, i may be able to borrow a tank from the ichthyology professor at school. anybody have any ideas on how often gouramis breed?

thanks Studd Muffin, unfortunately i didn't exactly plan on it and therefore i am not exactly set up for breeding. from what i've read online, seems like my fry are going to get sucked up by the filter:eek: i haven't been able to find how often they breed so that i will be prepared for next time

get a sponge filter. its safer for the eggs and fry's.
