Blue/green algae cyanobacteria problem...HELP!!!

I may have a blue/green algae cyanobacterian outbreak and I need to know how to get rid of it.

No matter what I do it won't go away.

Is is hurting my fish ?

Is it harmful to me if exposed ?

cyanobacteria is just that... a bacteria.

A trick I learned from the Nature aquarium folks, Erythromycin

Best way to clear up cyan is to do scrub it all the bacteria out do a water change and add some new carbon

The best way, I've found, to get rid of cyanobacteria is to take down the entire system, clean it, and start again. A lot of anti-biotic treatments only seem to make resistant strains of the bacteria, which in turn only makes it that much more unkillable than it was before.

Also just a note that if you don't clean your setup properly with detergents and all that, microbes can develop resistance to detergents as well.

I had a Small issue with this once. What i did was scrub it off the plants and walls and do a water change and gravel vac along with feeding my fish a little less, that seemed to work for me.

I have a lot of this in my planted tank. I've pulled it all out and done huge water changes, but it still pops back up within 24 hours. May tear down the tank and start over non planted.

Will be watching to see if anybody has any other good suggestions.

Also it won't directly hurt your fish or you. They're simply bacteria that can photosynthesize. They can however produce too much oxygen in a tank (yes you can have that). Might. Mostly they don't.

And yes, they grow relentlessly.
