I'm getting ready to order my LED kit from RapidLED and I'm trying to decide on what combonation of LED's to get. Can someone explain why all kits are sold with 1/2 the LED's being Blue? What benifit do the blue LED's add? I would like to use some blues for moon lighting, but I don't think that I would need half in the blue color.

This light system is for a freshwater tank that could end up being used for SW in a year or two.

i have red white and blue leds in my 125 just because i wanted a patriotic look i don't know that they serve any real purpose i know that they say the blue are for moon lighting but i've never seen the moon shine in the water as bright as my leds do...LOL

What are the dimensions of your tank?

If you end up making it a reef the blue really makes all the colors come out. Just the white alone gives everything a washed out look. Similar to if you have tried just a white bulb and mix a white and actinic together. If you are mixing white and blue leds together you will want them spaced fairly close, about 3" or less, or you see the individual colors. Close together the colors mix and give a nice overall bluish mix.

If you have the leds spaced close on freshwater I would go 2white to 1 blue, reef 1 to 1 and if they are not close only white or blue and use a florescent bulb to fill in the other color.

If you are patient on shipping q5 can be found cheaper on dealextreme, about 4.50 each if you enter bulkrate ate checkout.

Honestly if I did it over, especially for freshwater, I would go with the cheap 3w leds on ebay. If you email the sellers for a bulk amount they will get them shipped to you for under $2 each. I picked up a 150lm white and blue and they measured about 2/3 the lumens of my crees, but visually I can not see the difference.
