I need some advice......

Im in the planning stages of a 55-150 gal planted Discus tank.

Yes i know about discus. Yes i've done my research.;)

Question is, which kind of Blue (lobster or Cray) would be able to live in Higher temp 80-87 Planted tank and leave my discus ALONE?

i'm not looking for discus advice im looking for Invert. advice.

Plan is to cycle the planted tank for 6-8 months then add the Discus.
so in pre-setup for the planted i want to include a bunch of shrimp and some crays or lobsters..

I looked into Hammers Cobalt Blue Lobsters...but im finding mixed advice ..some say they will go after everything and others say that they don't bother fish at all, and are very peaceful.:nilly:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated:)

Most, if not all, larger inverts can be aggressive towards anything getting in their space and many will pick off fish while they're sleeping. That being said, I personally wouldn't risk it with the discus, even though they are more docile as far as larger invertebrates go. Also, aren't blue crayfish and hammer cobalt lobsters (another crayfish) basically the same thing; southern united states crayfish in the same genus, same temperament, same requirements??

Shrimp will be your best bet, although you'll probably want to get a large colony going first, since your fish will most likely pick off a lot of baby shrimp and maybe even adults...

No crays in a plant tank (besides the dwarf species)! Been there, done that. No matter how much or what you feed the crays they will destroy the plants, like a lawnmower! I personally don't think you'd have anything to worry about with the cray picking on the fish, but the plants for sure would be eaten up. Also, the discus would be having a crayfish dinner as soon as your cray molts, no matter have big it is.

Ghost shrimp and snails would work.

so maybe a dwarf species would be ok? wouldn't mow my water lawn or pick on my fish?

Personally, although i only keep Marble Crays, i'm still going to say you run the risk of them picking on your plants... crays just seem to have a tendency to pick and prune plants...
