My lfs have about 6 Blue Phantoms in stock, and i was thinking about getting one for my CA cichlid tank. I was advised against it by the owner who said that it would struggle to feed with greedy cichlids, and would starve. Is this really the case? Any help would be much appreciated.

no this isn't true blue phantoms are pretty agresive from what i have read. they wont have to fight for food either...just put some algea wafers in there...anyway you feed them they will still eat.

He is right, it is a bad combo. Blue phantoms are not particularly aggressive, and will probably be picked on by your cichlids. What kind of cichlids do you intend to keep? Also, algae wafers are not a good diet for any pleco. They make good staples, but not a complete diet.

I was going to put him in a establised 300g tank. The tank is stocked with big Viejas, and Archocentrus cichlids, plus a shoal of swordtails. Nothing thats predatory.

He'd probably be ok with the species you listed, but it could be risky, give him lots of very good hiding spots if you try it.
