Hi there

Is it a good idea to keep one blue ram only with various tetras? I have a 25 gallon tank. I wanted to keep two or three, but I've heard stories of them being a bit territorial in smaller tanks like mine and also stories of how u can't keep two males, and also that certain males may fight with given female if he doesn't 'approve' etc.

It looks more difficult to keep more than one blue ram in a tank like mine, given these problems so could I keep only one blue ram in my tank? Or are the shoaling fish (ie are they supposed to be kept in groups, pairs etc)?

Thanks

You could keep one or a pair in your tank. Just keep in mind they require high temps min 84 degrees so any tetras you pick should also be able to handel temps in the mid 80's.

Thanks tom! Can you give me any ideas of tetras that would work in a Ram's temp range?

Rummy nose and Cardinals are two that come to mind and work well with Rams.

Green neon tetras also work (not regular neons though!).

A pair will be fine, though you might want to start with a few and let them pair up then take the others back.

But yes, you can keep just one if you want. Blue rams aren't as social as their bolivian cousins.
