My fresh and salt systems are in rubbermaid tubs.....i've been waiting nearly 2 months for my new 480 gallon tanks and they should be here anytime. Monday I found a circuit breaker had tripped just after I went to sleep, turning off the heaters and the pumps to the salt water tub. When I got up, both my blue spotted rays, 2 sharks, and 4 groupers were dead. I hate losing fish like that....feel like I let them down......I've been looking on line at power outage alarms that automatically dial your phone when a breaker trips......Also looking at a generator that runs on natural gas and automatically kicks on when power fails..... I know it will be expensive, but I think I owe it to my fish...... Would hate to lose my fresh water rays and arowana.

Anyone who has expirence/advice about alarms/generators/backup life support for the fish and rays....I'd appreciate any information I can get.

sorry for your losses man.. whats up with people losing their rays latley:swear: as for all the alarms thats a awesom idea, ive never heard of these

sorry im not help

Check Generac packages offered on ebay. I've found those prices to be better than department stores, contractors, and catalog sales. I bought a 15KW NG/LP generator (with switching patch panel) for my hatchery. Also picked up a 12KW NG/LP generator to run the house in the event of a power failure. These generators kick on 4 seconds after the switching panel detects a power loss. I paid less then $6k for both units delivered (pre-Katrina prices).

harsh man that sucks. how were your blue spots, i heard they are hard to keep. got them feeding well?

sorry man thats a hard loss:( do you have any pics of the sharks and/or rays? if so please post. you can get a back up genarator but you will have to plug your tank into so if your sleeping and the power goes out it wont help.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I don't think I have pictures of the blue spots.... a fact I now regret. I'll take some pics of the sharks and post them. My new tanks are coming on thursday.....will post pics of those once they are setup. I also heard blue spots were hard to keep. Mine both ate right away and were doing well when i lost them because of the circuit breaker. Had em over 6 months..... Not buying more fish till the new tanks are up and alarms are in place....

Sorry for your loss man, I resently had to go through loosing 3 rays in the matter of 2 weeks.

How about hooking up your aquarium electric systems on a couple of circuits through parralel connections so that even if one goes out you still have one or 2 to take over the one that went outs load. This wouldnt help in a power outage though.

Blue dots are a funny thing man... the longest i have been able to keep any alive was 1 yr and 1/2... i have gone through about 10 or so... some never learn to eat... some get infections... some eat heathy forever and just die one day... im not sure why... right now im working on a pond with a friend for the breeding of blue dots... it involves high and low tide circulations so the rays naturally feed at high tide... I currently have 3 females and just lost 2 males in a row!:(
